The proliferation of so-called "emergency skilled" visas or H1B's is creating a class of skilled American workers who cannot find jobs. Corporate spokespersons, such as Bill Gates, go before Congress and attempt to make the case that there are not enough local skilled workers and that an increase in foreign workers is needed. THIS IS NOT TRUE! In my area of technology, I have been replaced twice by H1B visa holders. Even when one can find a new job, the foreign workers cause downward pressure on wages. It is a tragic turn of affairs when there is a slogan - "I'm in IT, so you know I'm broke." The situation is the same in the hard sciences. I know of one PhD in Chemistry who is recommending young people stay away from the sciences as that is a one-way ticket to unemployment. Madam Speaker, what are YOU going to do to reduce the number of these visas and put skilled American workers back to work?
H1B visas
