Special Prosecutor / Independent Counsel

Madam Speaker -

Given the refusal of several White House officials to obey subpoenas, and given the collusion of the Justice Department and the White House on several matters currently being investigated, why have you not called for a Special Prosecutor or Independent Counsel to investigate the numerous possible crimes by the Bush Administration?

While I understand your stance on impeachment even if I do not share it, if you don't act (and act soon) to empower a Special Prosecutor to look into the possible crimes committed during George W. Bush's term in office, then they will likely never come to light.

Many others have questions as to specific actions being investigated, or specific individuals who are ignoring congressional subpoenas, but what I'd like to know is since the White House has shown such contempt for the entire legislative oversight process, why don't you move forward with the only option remaining -- appointing a Special Prosecutor with wide-ranging ability to uncover the truth?

Thank you.

I don't think you understand that she has spent the last 2 years attempting to make sure that the crimes of the Bush administration are covered.

Because she's let it go so far, the only remedy now is impeachment hearings. But she took it off the table, didn't she? She did but the only remaining tool is impeachment because Bush/Cheney cannot stonewall, cover-up, hold documents or deny Congress whatever they ask for because impeachment investigations/hearings trump executive privilege and the Bush (Addington/Yoo) concept of the unitary executive.

Alls she needs to do is give Chairman Conyers the go ahead and he'll do the rest. However, let me repeat: she is not looking for the truith.

While it's a good question, the truth is that it is Congress's responsibility to investigate this and hold the administration to account. That's why Congress should have impeached Bush and Cheney long ago. That would have given the Senate the responsibility for investigating this.

Of course, the result of this failure is to show that Congress is just as guilty as the Bush Administration for these crimes. They don't respect the Constitution or the rule of law.

That begs the question, why should we as citizens follow the law if our government won't?

Well, we should because we do believe in the rule of law, and we have integrity and honor. But we don't exactly have inspiring leaders, do we?
