Fixing Government Programs: Social Security

When the Democrats took control in Washington, most of us who supported you expected that you would have a significant influence on fixing government. However, you have not addressed the serious issue of politicians in Washington spending OUR social security. We pay into that program so that at retirement we can get our money, however, you continue to spend it. If you stopped spending OUR money, the Social Security program would not be in trouble. There is not a whisper about this fact! Stop spending social security, problem mostly solved.

The federal debt is approaching $10 TRILLION. That is 10,000,000,000,000! That is about $31,000 for every man woman and child in the USA. The so called social security trust fund is this debt!

"If nothing changes, the federal government's not gonna be able to do much more than pay interest on the mounting debt and some entitlement benefits. It won't have money left for anything else – national defense, homeland security, education, you name it," former comptroller general of the United States, David Walker warns.

Future benefits voted by the government is on the order of $50 TRILLION more!

How much do you feel the government can owe before our standard of living sinks to that of a 2nd or 3rd world nation, or the nation ceases to exist, and some other takes it place?

Our debt, in large part, is due to our economy being based on war. We had a balanced budget under the Clinton presidency. In the Bush era, the focus has been on perpetual wars. That was their actual plan - remember the term neo-con? If we are in perpetual war, if most of our funds go toward it, rather than using OUR money right here at home, of course there won't be anything left for programs that help American citizens. That was their plan as well. Factor in diminished funds, try to convince its citizenry

that we HAVE to cut programs for the people because we're committed to XYZ wars and, oh, by the way, if you don't support "us" you are unpatriotic. Some of "their" scheming worked for a while, but eventually even the most hardened devotee began to suspect this plan was doomed to fail. In the meantime, the problem is not fixed, and won't be fixed until Bush is out of there. I am encouraged when I see reports like this morning that the Iraqis have refused to agree to a long term military presence. So, that could free up billions right there from what we would have spent on X # of military bases. It's a little late to stop construction on the obscene U.S. embassy there, but maybe we will ultimately do the right thing and turn it over to the Iraqis to use as an educational facility, perhaps a hospital.

If you will check history the Social Security Fund was never meant to be put in ghe General Fund. The money in it is money paid into retirment. If a priviate compay was to take money its employees paid into a retirment fund and spent it for company growth they would be prosecuted.

As for repaying this money back to Social Security, Stop spending so much on foriegn aid to countries that hate us or where the money goes into some desposts bank account in some of shore protected accounts.

A good example is the Bill sponserd by Barrach Obma to turn over Billions of our Tax dollars to the UN for relief in Africa. What about som relief at home first?

I agree. Americans need to be repaid before China, India, Iraq, or whomever.
