Democratic Congress

Please explain how the Democratic Congress has helped the Citizens of the US. I only see more of the same as we have had for 16 years.

Why, if we are really concerned about the price of oil do not we regulate the companys who are based in this country from

speculating on the stock exchange. That is legal. Morgan Stanley for instance, not the only one by a far cry, but very prominate in

this action. The price would probably not be rising at the rate it is if all that profit were not being made by hugh companies, or even the smaller one. Not American as it appears to me.

The Senate Republicans have blocked anything from happening by filibustering every positive bill to help Americans. Anything that does pass is vetoed by our court appointed 'president'. Bush vetoed nothing when the Republicans controlled Congress. He has vetoed most everything since the Democratic party took control. The Senate needs 60 voted to close debate and there is at best a 1 or 2 vote margin. So 48 Republicans can block anything 52 Democrats want. ( Those same Republicans whined when Democrats tried to filibuster anything.) I'm not sure where you were during the Clinton years, but things were a lot better before BushCo took his posse to Iraq. I'd say things went bad after 9/11/01, when Mr 'Bring em on' strapped on his six-shooter and threatened the wrong country. How can we can afford domestic policy when China owns billions in US debt papers for the war?

  3. I see two comments to this question, Ones seems to be all about oil, which is not the question I ask about, The second shows why this country is in the shape it is in. It is simply a rant against the Republican Party showing I guess there can never be again the kind of goverment we are supposed to have. If the Democrats and Republicans can not work together then we simply will sit here in a stalemate while our country goes down the drain.

The poser apparently has not noticed that the Democrats do not have a veto-proof majority. Not being able to override a veto has been a real problem, since the Democrats have no chosen (in the Senate) to try the bare knuckles, backstreet methods of the Bill Frist.

I think, though, that bills should be brought forth for vote even if a veto-proof majority is not a prospect.

Commenters don't seem to appreciate that the Democrats outnumber the Republicans in the House and have a sufficient number in the Senate to keep any Republican or White House bill from passing. The fact that we have any Republican legislation passing implies that the Democrats in Congress want that legislation to pass. There are many bills that would benefit the American people that have sufficient numbers of supporters to pass. So, why are we seeing bills pass that sell out the American people's rights and favor multinational companies over our own people while we see none of the helpful bills make it through?
