  An Associated Press article today says that the House Judiciary Committee will hold one hearing on impeachment. From the article, "But House Democratic leaders emphatically said the proceedings will not be about Bush’s impeachment..." Clearly this is a political maneuver to make Dennis Kucinich shut up and go away.

  Given the gravity and multitude of crimes committed by Bush, Cheney, and others in the Administration, I am angry and ashamed with this transparent dodge. It drags the Constitution even further into the mud.

  How can you justify your maneuvers to avoid real impeachment hearings?

  A major reason that Democrats lost so many seats in 1994 is that unions sat out the vote after President Clinton pushed through ratification of NAFTA with primarily Republican support. Ross Perot famously said that a "giant sucking sound" was created by jobs going south because of NAFTA and subsequent events have proved him right. The so-called worker and environment protection clauses in such deals are always too weak to do any good.

  Yet you consistently support such deals and recently pushed through the Peru trade pact even though unions overwhelmingly oppose them. Why do you persist in this support even though it splits the Democratic coalition, takes away jobs, only helps large corporations, and creates a global "race to the bottom" for wages?

  When is Single Payer Health Care Going to be Given Serious Consideration?

  If private insurance is given a place in universal health care, a lot of money will go to their profits, overhead, waste, etc. We already ...more »

   

  If private insurance is given a place in universal health care, a lot of money will go to their profits, overhead, waste, etc. We already have the most expensive health care system in the world. If we cut out the health insurance companies, the savings can be used to take care of sick people. It works better. Medicare is a success with low overhead and is cheaper than Medicare

  Advantage, the private insurance scam that was forced on us by the Republicans.

  Please comment on why Single Payer gets no serious consideration in Congress.

  Inside the Beltway Conventional Wisdom seems to be a contagious disease that infects many people who spend too much time in DC. On the FISA update bill, polls show a majority against wiretapping without a warrant, yet you voted for it and moved the bill quickly through the House; on impeachment, you famously said it is off the table, yet one poll showed respondents split evenly on the question and another said Bush should be impeached if he lied to get us into war; and a large majority want withdrawal from Iraq, but you have repeatedly caved to Republican demands for full funding for the war in Iraq without any conditions.

  Please comment on why you repeatedly choose to buck the majority of the people, who are your ultimate employer, and instead go along with Republican demands on these and other issues.
