What should be done to improve schooling and pay for teachers? (i.e., the adjunct nightmare)
Hello, Speaker Pelosi, I'm a constituent in San Francisco. As an adjunct writing instructor with a Master's Degree, teaching a full course load for a local private university, I'm virtually a temp., with no health benefits, vacation, etc. I have a difficult time paying my rent and other expenses (which are quite modest). I've seen that higher education institutions are hiring more and more "adjuncts" so that they don't have to offer benefits or job security.
What do you think can be done by Congress re: implementing higher pay for teachers and better quality education for students? The U.S. education system seems to be getting worse and worse, especially in cities.
